The existing identity was functional but sober and The Ben Walton Trust needed something that was more emotive and engaging. A photographic portrait of Ben Walton was used, along with a fresh colour to create a warm, touching yet vibrant identity.

The name Bellbird was chosen as it is a small Australian bird with a large voice - perfect for podcasting, but also the inspiration behind the winning design concept.

The palate of colours used in her paintings was the inspiration behind the navigation bar - every colour on the site can be found in her work. The result is a site that doesn’t jar but complements her style. Business cards, letterhead and compliment slips have also been created.

The biggest challenge for us was to capture the subtlety of his watercolours in a medium not renowned for its subtlety. The sketchbook style and the inclusion of lots of white space let his pictures speak for themselves.

“I didn’t have any experience of commissioning web design and was nervous that my website would not convey the nature of my work but I needn’t have worried. I was kept informed throughout the design process, my opinions were valued and my approval sought at every stage.”
